Project Description

Starting a blog was something that had been on my to-do list for a couple years, but it wasn't until I became involved with my university's EDGE program that the idea was transferred from a slot on the bucket list to a little corner of the web. Reclusive Ramblings was born from a desire to do a project that would allow me to do what I enjoy—which is write and tell stories—but also push me past my comfort zone and try something new. Although I love to write, I am a fairly reserved person who has a hard time sharing her work with others. I decided that writing a blog would be the best way for me to share my writing with a broader audience that was outside my family and peers. Another deciding factor behind my choice for the project was the practice that weekly updating a blog would give me in meeting self-appointed deadlines. This would provide me an opportunity to stay on track with a project where deadlines and grades were not my primary motivation.

In my experience, many English majors share their writing through physical copies and emails. Reclusive Ramblings allowed for my writing to have an online presence that people from various parts of the world have access to. I gained writing experience outside that of my English classes and learned how to navigate an online writing platform---a skill which is not commonly taught in the classes of my major.

Reclusive Ramblings was a project that lasted over the course of 30 weeks, from February to August of 2017. I wrote, edited, and posted one post a week, which resulted in a total of 30 blog posts. Posts covered a variety of topics, including anecdotes from my life and my opinion on just about everything from school to my favorite color to driving Satan's chariot. I tried to keep my posts positive and integrate some humor so that my blog could provide quick, enjoyable reads for my audience.
